Amcor, a global leader in sustainable packaging solutions, has announced the completion of its new advanced coating facility for healthcare packaging in Selangor, Malaysia. This high-tech plant is the first in Asia to utilize state-of-the-art air knife coating technology, boosting the availability of premium sterile packaging for healthcare providers throughout the region.
The facility extends Amcor’s current healthcare packaging operations in Selangor, forming an integrated production campus. With this expansion, Amcor becomes the first manufacturer in Asia to produce both the top and bottom layers used in medical device packaging on-site. This development enhances supply chain reliability and significantly shortens delivery times for customers.
Outfitted with innovative systems including water-based coating technologies, real-time inspection tools, and air knife technology, the facility is designed for superior accuracy and operational efficiency. The air knife system, in particular, uses high-speed air to apply coatings evenly, resulting in more consistent products and minimizing material waste.
“Amcor’s investment in this new facility reflects our unwavering commitment to support our customers across the Asia Pacific region,” said Chris Kenneally, president of Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific. “By introducing advanced coating technology and boosting local production capacity, we are better positioned to meet the growing regional demand for sterile, reliable packaging and to offer our customers greater flexibility and security.”
"Producing our industry-leading global product platform locally brings us closer to our customers, enhancing supply security and flexibility," said Virginie Maes, vice president of global healthcare, Amcor. “By investing in advanced coating technologies and expanding our regional capabilities, we are not only addressing the growing demand for high-performance healthcare packaging but also reinforcing our promise to deliver a consistent and innovative value proposition to our customers worldwide."
The new facility reflects Amcor’s ongoing efforts to strengthen its healthcare packaging presence across the Asia Pacific region. Other recent milestones include acquiring Chinese healthcare packaging firm MDK, launching a grid lacquer paper production unit in India, and building a co-extrusion blown film and printing facility in Singapore.
