BASF Announces Sale of Its Optical Brightening Agents Business to Catexel

BASF has entered into an agreement with Catexel to sell its optical brightening agents business, which forms part of BASF’s Care Chemicals division. These agents are key ingredients used in laundry detergent formulations. The financial terms of the transaction remain undisclosed, and the deal is expected to close in the first quarter of 2026.

The transaction includes BASF’s global optical brightening agents business, encompassing production activities at its Monthey site in Switzerland and approximately 80 employees. This divestment supports BASF’s ongoing strategic transformation.

Catexel, the Care Chemicals platform of the International Chemical Investors Group (ICIG), focuses on producing high-quality specialty chemicals for detergents, cleaning products, personal care, and industrial applications. With the acquisition of BASF’s optical brightening agents business and production, Catexel underscores its strategic commitment to expanding its portfolio—broadening its range of premium ingredients for detergent manufacturers and reinforcing its position as a trusted partner in the market.
