Beckers Group has inaugurated its new R&D Centre in Shanghai’s Songjiang district, representing a major investment in enhancing its technical capabilities to better serve the Chinese coatings market.
The 20-person facility will accommodate research teams focused on both coil and industrial coating applications, featuring dedicated areas for customer collaboration and the development of Radcure Technology—an ultraviolet curing system designed to lower carbon emissions in coil coating production.
"The proof of innovation is sales. China is an important growth market for Beckers Group, and R&D plays a key role in helping us bring innovative and differentiated product solutions and capabilities to our customers," said Gavin Bown, Chief Technology Officer at Beckers Group. "The new Beckers China R&D Center is both symbolic of and a key driver of that ambition."
Supported by Beckers’ owner, Lindéngruppen, along with the Group’s Board of Directors and Executive Committee, the investment equips the facility with advanced laboratory infrastructure to develop coatings tailored to local market needs while promoting sustainability objectives.
"This R&D centre positions us to respond faster to customer needs with solutions developed specifically for the Chinese market," said Benoit Giraud, Managing Director of Beckers China. "Our customers require both high-performance coatings and a reduced environmental impact – this facility enables us to deliver both while strengthening our competitive position in the region."
The centre will concentrate on three key areas: developing innovative coating solutions for local applications, delivering direct technical support to customers, and driving sustainable technologies such as low-carbon formulations and UV-curing systems.
China serves as a strategic growth market for Beckers Group’s coil and industrial coatings businesses. The new R&D centre reinforces the company’s Green Lights strategy by accelerating the development and implementation of sustainable coating technologies in the region.
