Dürr Completes Turnkey Paint Shop for TC Group at Škoda’s New Vietnam Plant

Dürr has completed a turnkey paint shop project for Thanh Cong Group (TC Group) at the newly established Thanh Cong Viet Hung (TCVH) automobile plant in Quang Ninh, Vietnam — a facility fully funded by TC Group. This project marks the first partnership between Dürr and TC Group, supporting the launch of Škoda’s inaugural vehicle production in Vietnam.

The TCVH plant is a key milestone in the Vietnamese government’s strategy to develop a large-scale, modern automotive industrial hub in Quang Ninh. TC Motors has invested heavily in infrastructure, logistics, and support facilities to advance European vehicle manufacturing in Vietnam. Spanning 36.5 hectares, the factory has an annual production capacity of up to 120,000 vehicles. It is poised to serve as a major center for Škoda vehicle distribution across Southeast Asia, contributing to local economic growth through employment generation, higher tax revenues, and workforce skill development.

Strategically located near Haiphong Port, the TCVH facility benefits from streamlined logistics for importing completely knocked down (CKD) kits from Pune, India. The plant will manufacture Škoda’s first locally produced models — the Kushaq and Slavia. Phase I is designed for a production rate of 13 jobs per hour (JPH), with plans to scale up to 20 JPH in the next phase.

Efficient Execution Despite Challenges

Despite facing global supply chain disruptions, including shortages in sheet metal processing and electrical components, fluctuations in maritime transport, and extreme weather events such as a super typhoon, Dürr successfully completed the project within 18 months. From the contract signing in November 2023 to final acceptance in July 2025, the project was delivered on schedule and met all technical specifications.

Recognition for Excellence

In recognition of its outstanding performance, TC Motors recently awarded Dürr China the “Excellent Supplier” title. This award highlights the collaborative spirit and technical excellence that characterized the project. “A key factor in this achievement was the effective collaboration between the teams of Dürr China and Dürr Vietnam with the TC Group, working together to ensure the project's success,” said Wang Shuo, Project Manager at Dürr Paint shop systems Engineering (Shanghai) Co., Ltd. “We are extremely proud to receive this award. It reflects the dedication and professionalism of our team, who overcame considerable challenges to deliver an advanced modern factory.” 

Dürr’s Technological Contribution

Dürr’s technological expertise played a pivotal role in equipping the new paint shop with cutting-edge solutions. The key highlight is the electrically driven RoDip® E system for pretreatment and electrocoating, featuring freely programmable trolleys. Each trolley is equipped with both conveying and rotating drives, allowing independent control of horizontal and rotational movements for each vehicle body. This flexibility enables customized dipping curves based on vehicle models, improving coating quality, boosting energy efficiency, and lowering production costs. Another distinctive aspect of the facility is the combined spray booth, where both primer and clear coat are applied in the same chamber—reducing investment costs. Dürr’s scope of supply also included sealing lines, seven painting robots, ovens, and a hot wax line, ensuring a fully integrated and efficient paint shop setup.
