IMCD Group, a global leader in the distribution and formulation of speciality chemicals and ingredients, has inaugurated a new construction laboratory in Indonesia, enhancing its technical expertise in coatings and construction across Southeast Asia.
The new laboratory integrates construction expertise with IMCD’s established Coatings Laboratory, creating a unified hub where technical and commercial experts, customers, and principals can collaborate more closely on formulation development, testing, and technical problem-solving.
IMCD has maintained a Coatings Laboratory in Jakarta since 2018, supporting coatings, paints, and construction manufacturers through technical expertise, formulation development, and laboratory services. The site was fully refurbished in 2024 to strengthen partner collaboration and drive formulation innovation, with the new Construction Laboratory building on this foundation.
The Coatings & Construction Laboratory in Jakarta focusses on meeting local needs, solving problems and improving formulas, speeding up product development, and providing training to help customers innovate.
In coatings, this includes decorative paints, industrial metal coatings, and coatings for wood, plastics, and automotive applications. In construction, the focus covers dry mix mortars, flooring resins and waterproofing systems, concrete blocks, bricks and masonry, as well as joint fillers, sealants and ready-to-use renders.
The opening of the Construction Laboratory builds on a series of recent investments by IMCD in Indonesia, including the enhancement of the Food & Nutrition Laboratory announced in January 2025, the expansion of the Pharmaceuticals Technical Centre in November 2024, and the launch of the Global Microbiology Laboratory in October 2024. Collectively, these developments reinforce Indonesia’s position as a key regional hub for technical expertise and co-creation.
“With both the Coatings and Construction laboratories and experts working side by side, we can support our partners in a more connected and effective way,” says Pimsiraya Vichaidit, Director, Coatings & Construction, Asia-Pacific, at IMCD. “It means faster development, stronger troubleshooting and solutions that are designed around the realities of the regional market.”
“This milestone reflects the commitment and teamwork of our local and regional teams, working closely with our partners,” adds Naihong Yang, Technical Director, Coatings & Construction, Asia-Pacific, at IMCD. “It is about creating practical, high-quality and sustainable solutions that help our customers move faster and help our customers advance faster in their product developments.”
