Lubrizol Doubles its Dispersant Production Capacity in North America
As part of its growth strategy, Lubrizol is expanding operations at its Avon Lake, OH, manufacturing facility to double the production capacity of Solsperse Hyperdispersants, which are widely used by coating and ink formulators for superior pigment dispersant performance, among other applications.
Over the previous decade, Lubrizol has continuously extended its production capacity for Solsperse Hyperdispersants, expanding the range of products available from the factory. This significant investment will allow Lubrizol to sustain its worldwide dispersant development trajectory while also opening up more capacity expansion options in the future, some of which are currently planned for 2025.
"Increasing Solsperse Hyperdispersant production in Avon Lake allows us to better serve our North American customers and reduce supply chain complexity," says Luis Carthery, Sr. Director of Performance Coatings at Lubrizol. "Production in North America for North America enables faster response times and reduces transportation needs, improving sustainability by reducing the carbon footprint associated with shipping between regions."
This investment underscores Lubrizol's continuous commitment to the North American coatings industry, as well as its contribution to ensuring that products developed in other areas are easily accessible to clients there. As part of its expansion plan, the firm stated earlier this year that it will invest in increasing capacity for its acrylic emulsion technology in Gastonia, North Carolina.
"Many segments of the coatings industry continue to rapidly grow," explains Marco Fay, Vice President Performance Coatings at Lubrizol. “Our investments solidify our commitment to our customers that we are partners in progress who they can count on to bring new coating innovations to life. From 100% active, to water-based, bio-content containing dispersants, to high-performing additives for industrial and protective coatings, Lubrizol helps our customers achieve their sustainability initiatives and growth targets.”
Solsperse Hyperdispersants are usually regarded as providing exceptional performance. This dispersant method combines polymeric stabilizing chains with anchor groups designed to produce sterically stabilized dispersions with high solids content, low viscosity, and good viscosity and particle size stability. Customers rely on Solsperse Hyperdispersants to overcome a variety of formulation difficulties and open up new possibilities.
