OCI and Prefere Resins are teaming up to lower carbon emissions in the chemical industry by using MelaminebyOCI™ Novo, a low-carbon product made from biogas, instead of regular melamine made from natural gas.
This material can be used to produce resins for coatings, paper, textiles, and laminates, providing a more sustainable option across a wide range of downstream applications.
Melamine is a key component in a wide range of everyday products, valued for its strength, durability, and versatility. By offering a proven low-carbon option, OCI and Prefere Resins are helping to lower greenhouse gas emissions and promote more eco-friendly manufacturing throughout the entire process.
OCI’s ISCC PLUS certification ensures the responsible sourcing and use of renewable feedstocks across the product lifecycle, supporting claims of reduced carbon emissions. Melamine by OCI™ Novo enables manufacturers to deliver more sustainable solutions while maintaining the high quality and performance associated with melamine-based products.
“This partnership is another milestone in our journey to decarbonise value chains across industries,” said Bart Pescio, Director Commercial Nitrogen Europe, OCI. “By combining OCI’s low-carbon production expertise with Prefere Resins application know-how, we are bringing certified, lower-carbon materials to market today, creating immediate, tangible benefits for customers and the environment.”
Christian Remus, Managing Director, Prefere Melamines add: “As a group, Prefere Resins is strongly committed to compliance, innovation, and sustainability contributions of our products. Strong partnerships across our supply chain, especially for key raw materials, are essential to achieving these goals. We are grateful to work closely with suppliers like OCI who share our values, enabling us to help our customers pursue and achieve their own sustainability ambitions. Only together can we reach our goals.”
Together, OCI and Prefere Resins are establishing a new standard for low-carbon innovation in the chemical industry, combining technical expertise with a shared commitment to sustainability.
