At Abralatas 2025 in São Paulo, AkzoNobel Packaging Coatings will showcase its latest Accelshield™ BPA non-intentionally added (BPAni) coatings, bringing advanced solutions for can bodies to the Brazilian market. The Accelshield range of internal can and beverage-end coatings provides can makers and brand owners with top-quality choices that meet new rules and what consumers want, helping the metal packaging industry move towards a future without bisphenol.

“The transition away from bisphenols represents one of the largest material shifts the beverage packaging industry has ever faced,” says Manoel Rodrigues, Regional Commercial Director, AkzoNobel Packaging Coatings. “At Abralatas, we’ll be sharing how our Accelshield technologies enable that change – by providing reliable, compliant, and future-proof solutions that don’t compromise on performance.”

At Abralatas, AkzoNobel’s Dominique Fort will join a panel discussion to address the challenges the industry faces amid regulatory changes and emphasise the importance for can makers and industry organisations to adopt a structured, forward-looking approach to navigate the transition.

At the exhibition stand, AkzoNobel will showcase two key beverage-inside spray solutions from its Accelshield range. Accelshield 150 is a waterborne BPAni internal coating for can bodies, commercially proven in global markets since 2015. It provides the flexibility, resistance to chemicals, and protection from rust that people expect from epoxy systems, has been approved by many brand owners, and works well on fast production lines.

AkzoNobel’s Accelshield 300 coating for the inside of can bodies does not contain bisphenols, phenolics, formaldehyde, or styrene, making it a better and more responsible choice for Designed with future regulatory developments in mind, Accelshield 300 is the most advanced and future-ready solution available, offering exceptional corrosion protection, flexibility, and sensory performance. Laboratory and brand tests demonstrate improved flavour retention compared to previous-generation coatings.

Alongside the new BPAni offerings, AkzoNobel will also showcase its Aqualure™ epoxy-based inside spray coatings, trusted globally by can makers for their proven performance and reliability.

AkzoNobel Packaging Coatings continues to partner with can makers, coil coaters, and brand owners says Manoel Rodrigues: “We’re helping the metal packaging industry transition responsibly towards coatings free from materials of concern. By combining proven epoxy technologies with a growing portfolio of next-generation BPAni solutions, AkzoNobel ensures its customers are equipped to meet both current market needs and evolving future regulatory standards affecting their markets.”
