PPG announced its collaboration with Xiaomi EV on the newly launched “100 Colours Project”, an ambitious initiative designed to redefine automotive personalisation. Under Xiaomi's Customisation Service, the project will roll out 100 exclusive paint colours over the next three years, developed in collaboration with leading global coatings suppliers.
PPG was chosen as a key partner in the program, and it helped develop the first five custom colours. Among these is the striking Amethyst Purple, notable for its deep lustre and distinctive visual appeal, which provides Xiaomi customers with a premium, personalised finish.
At the launch event, Xiaomi EV unveiled its ambitious plan to provide a more personalised experience for YU7 owners. In partnership with leading global collaborators, the company will create 100 exclusive car paint colours over the next three years. The initiative is designed to allow each customer to select a shade that reflects their personality and style, highlighting Xiaomi EV’s dedication to innovation and individual expression.
“PPG is proud to support Xiaomi in pushing the boundaries of automotive design and personalisation,” said Thomas Li, PPG vice president, automotive coatings, Asia Pacific. “With our global manufacturing network and deep coatings expertise, we continue to deliver innovative solutions that enhance visual appeal and provide long-term performance and sustainability, empowering OEMs to meet evolving consumer expectations and design trends.”
By leveraging insights from cross-industry colour trends and advanced digital visualisation tools, PPG helps automotive manufacturers develop vehicle colours that align with current consumer preferences. Its innovative Digital Styling Program enables designers to simulate the appearance of colours and effects on virtual car models, for both exterior and interior applications. This approach facilitates remote collaboration with OEM design teams, streamlining the evaluation and integration of new colour concepts in the vehicle's development process.
