Sun Chemical has increased its perylene pigment production capacity at its Ludwigshafen, Germany facility, adding up to 200 metric tons of intermediates and finished products to support rising global demand. This expansion underscores the company’s long-term commitment to ensuring a stable, dependable supply of high-performance perylene pigments for customers in the coatings, plastics, and automotive industries.
“Perylenes are core to our portfolio and represent an important area of ongoing innovation,” said Alex Baron, Vice President and Global Commercial Director, Sun Chemical. “This investment strengthens our ability to deliver diversified, high-performance color solutions and supports the development of new products that meet customers’ most demanding application requirements.”
The upgrade at Ludwigshafen represents a major step toward strengthening supply chain reliability and supporting growth in key international markets. It also enhances Sun Chemical’s established perylene pigment portfolio, which includes leading red-to-violet and functional black grades known for their strong performance across diverse applications.
Paliogen Red premium perylene pigments offer outstanding durability and color clarity, producing vibrant red to maroon shades with excellent heat stability and weather resistance. Certified with ECO PASSPORT by OEKO-TEX, these pigments contribute to more sustainable formulations and are engineered to deliver high chroma and transparency for luxury and automotive coatings.
The company’s Spectrasense functional black perylene pigments provide deep black coloration alongside added performance advantages such as solar heat management and advanced laser-welding capability. These pigments enable the creation of NIR-reflective black surfaces that stay cooler under sunlight while maintaining the rich black aesthetics required in automotive, construction, and other high-performance applications.
“By expanding capacity in Ludwigshafen, we are reinforcing our commitment to product quality, innovation and supply reliability,” said Brian Panczyk, President of Color Materials, Sun Chemical. “Our customers rely on Sun Chemical for consistency and technical excellence, and this milestone ensures we continue to meet those expectations reliably.”
