BASF Coatings has introduced a new tool designed to help body shops enhance both their environmental sustainability and economic efficiency.

• The Eco Impact Assessment tool employs a measurement approach grounded in life cycle assessment methodology.

• Body shops can leverage accurate data and analytics to advance their sustainability efforts.

• The tool will be rolled out in Europe under the Refinity brand.

BASF Coatings has launched the innovative Eco Impact Assessment tool under its Refinity® brand, a digital business management platform aimed at supporting automotive refinish partners and customers. This new tool allows body shops to evaluate their performance across ecological, economic, and social dimensions. It offers comprehensive assessments of all key material flows within a body shop, including spraying and drying processes, product usage, waste management, and fleet operations. By utilising accurate data and real-world measurements from body shops, the Eco Impact Assessment tool helps improve both profitability and environmental impacts simultaneously.

“The assessment results in a corporate carbon footprint and allows for benchmarking with other body shops. By comparing results, the tool helps define measures to improve performance and reduce environmental impact,” said Dr Rahel Reichmann, Head of Sustainability Automotive Refinish Coatings at BASF.

By leveraging the Eco Impact Assessment tool on the Refinity® platform, body shops can actively promote sustainability and raise awareness of efforts to reduce the environmental impact within the automotive refinish industry. Through this initiative, BASF Coatings reinforces its commitment to helping customers achieve greater sustainability. Additionally, the company offers a refinish basecoat line featuring the lowest VOC content in its portfolio.
