Henkel Adhesive Technologies Locations in the Middle East and Africa Reach the 100% Renewable Power Milestone

Henkel Adhesive Technologies, the world's leading solution supplier for adhesives, sealants, and functional coatings, has achieved a critical sustainability milestone: all production facilities in the Middle East and Africa (MEA) region now use 100% renewable power.

Henkel's eight MEA Adhesive Technologies production locations in six countries have successfully switched to renewable energy sources, eliminating carbon dioxide (CO2) emissions from their power use, commonly known as Scope 2 emissions. This transition covers both on-site solar systems and external renewable sources like hydroelectric and wind energy. Renewable energy efforts include on-site photovoltaic (PV) solar and hydroelectricity in Turkey and Kenya, wind energy in South Africa, and solar power in Saudi Arabia and the UAE.

Henkel has reduced about 10,471 tonnes of CO2 emissions from its Scope 2 operations each year, which is comparable to eliminating the carbon footprint of nearly 2,500 gasoline-powered automobiles used for a year or approximately 2,700 flights from New York to Singapore. Henkel is making a significant environmental impact and establishing an industry standard by dramatically lowering its dependency on fossil fuels.

Veerabhadra Konakalla, Head of Safety, Health, and Environment at Henkel Adhesive Technologies IMEA, said “By achieving complete decarbonization of our scope 2 operations in our MEA sites, we’ve turned our commitments into tangible progress on the path to achieving climate positive operations by 2030. This achievement is a testament to the zeal of our IMEA team to drive transformative environmental change and create a more sustainable future.”

This outcome is consistent with Henkel's 2030+ Sustainability Ambition Framework, which aims for climate-positive operations by 2030 and a net-zero route.

Henkel's sustainability plan shows a commitment to "Purposeful Growth," which aims to provide value for stakeholders, expand businesses ethically and profitably, and reaffirm Henkel's leadership in sustainability.
