Surventis Strategic Partnership with Aumovio

Surventis, which was previously known as BASF Coatings, has signed a strategic development and collaboration agreement with AUMOVIO to advance microstructured optical films for automotive applications under its Chemetall brand. The partnership aims to develop innovative solutions for automotive displays and head-up displays for customers worldwide.

Electrification and autonomous mobility are making advanced displays the main user interfaces in vehicles, which is increasing the need for high-performance, cost-effective optical components.

To meet this need, AUMOVIO and Surventis have formed a strategic collaboration to enable next-generation automotive UX systems by integrating advanced optical films.

“Automotive applications represent an important growth area for our functional films business,” said Frank Naber, Executive Vice President, Surface Treatment, Surventis. “Microstructured optical films open up new possibilities for light management in automotive displays, and head-up displays. By partnering with AUMOVIO, we bring innovative optical solutions into future vehicle platforms more efficiently.”
“Advanced display technologies are becoming increasingly important for the in-vehicle user experience,” said Ulrich Lueders, Director Strategy and Portfolio of the User Experience (UX) business area at AUMOVIO.  “By combining Surventis’ competencies in microstructured optical films with our expertise in automotive integration and manufacturing, we can translate new optical concepts into scalable solutions for the requirements of future mobility.”

Surventis has unique expertise in designing and manufacturing microstructured optical films, using advanced material science and optical capabilities along with state-of-the-art nanoimprint technology. Its scalable roll-to-roll nanoimprinting process precisely replicates complex optical micro- and nanostructures over large areas, enabling next-generation films that improve the performance, functionality, and design flexibility of future user-experience systems.

AUMOVIO’s expertise in advanced automotive displays and head-up display solutions, along with its extensive system-integration capabilities, allows Surventis’ technologies to be smoothly integrated into vehicle interiors while meeting automotive standards and OEM requirements. The companies have jointly established clear development steps and initial industrialisation milestones to guide implementation.

“Working together with AUMOVIO is an important step in advancing the adoption of optical films in automotive applications. By combining our material science and optical expertise with AUMOVIO’s capabilities in automotive system integration and series implementation, we can accelerate the development of innovative solutions for future vehicle programs,” said Brian Ward, Head of Global Strategy & Marketing, Surface Treatment, Surventis.

Optical films are a future-ready alternative to conventional optical components because they improve light distribution and readability and enable new functionalities in displays and projection systems. Their compatibility with scalable, cost-effective manufacturing gives automotive OEMs greater flexibility in designing innovative user interfaces and optimising visual-system performance.
